I will be able to resume posting and if it goes well...podcast. Mycomputer completely died and i have a new one coming tomorrow at last!!I have been reading and minimally involved.via a Nook tablet or my netbook. Neither of these have enuf capacity to produce a podcast. I have a lot to catch up!

After I get set up and have my data transferred I will be in business. Look to talk of what we to you all then and postvsome pictures of whats been on the needles,shuttles, and wheel!

But I was wrong. The power source helped but it has still not been good. I do have this NetBook from Dell, but I don't use it for posting the big stuff like podcasts. I think it is now ok, so I am going to attempt a 'cast as soon as possible. I lost the last two attempts I made since May episode. The good thing is I have LOTS to chat about!

Also lost cell phone this week so I am waiting for a iPhone 4. Nah, I can't wait for the "5". I poured coffee in my Blackberry Bold which I really liked. I need a better device for medical stuff for work though...so I busted out the money and it should be here soon. I hate spending money on a tele! It is like car buyer's remorse!! Argh!!

I have pics to post later...am making progress on tatting without pain. YEAH!! I was MONTHS before I could touch it!

I am Sooooo glad I am well again and tatting and knitting is going great! I was sick off and on all winter with bronchitis then as if that wasn't bad enough, the computer broke.. Had to replace the power supply, but it all seems better now.

Computer Crash + Illness = No Podcast

Just a brief note to tell ya all I am hoping I can do a podcast soon. I was sick with bronchitis most of April and was unable to talk for long periods without wheezing! Now I am better....

Computer broke down and this netbook is not the best for podcasting. I am going to try to put up a little one from here...this weekend. A LOT to talk about!! I had made a video cast I will try to get up here. I have not figured out how to "get it out" of the camera.

I have more knitting done thab tatting but am still on an Iris project and am sooo itching to buy a new shuttle!!

FIRST!!!....Apologies for the repetitive uploads...First, I had a track overlap with another...fixed it. THEN, as I was fixing it I seem to have loaded two version of the same cast! Yikes, What is with THAT! I swear I only deleted the old then reloaded the new . I hope they all didn't make it to ITunes but they might have. Oops! Sorry, if it made a mess on your MP3s!

This is the scarf I made from the fiber shown in the previous posting..Celtic Glow from Crown Mountain, Turned out very soft and warm burt as it is just a cowl...not too warm. Below is what it looked like blocking. Liked the patterning and have had a couple FP residents try to steal.

Bottom picture is March fiber...Coopworth, Finding Rainbows.. First 2 ply in a while...again, not sure I love it as I like how the Navajo Ply preserves the color transitions,

I will post a picture of my revised "Gloria" from Iris Niebach book of edgings. I think I might like it better in the larger size butterfly. We;ll see.

Can't wait until end of April, Long weekend for Easter and another the next weekend as the family and I participate in the career fair at DDs school (NP, CAD drawing, interior design, teacher) Then Bradley and I are continuing on for our Spring Break...Driving to Cleveland, and maybe into New York again chasing flowers!! I am soooooo in need of a vacation. We go every year in the Fall and the Spring.

This is my Crown Mountain Farms, January Fiber Club in Celtic Glow all spun up. Waiting for inspiration to start to knit it ...I think a Cowl as I got about 260 yard in Navajo Ply.

Below is the spindle I bought at Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival held a few weeks ago. I am so frustrated I can not remember the maker. She is on Ravelry but I don't remember her name. I love the sheen and it spins very well. The last photo is a Jonathan Bosworth. It is Big Leaf Maple on a Cochin Rosewood shaft. LOVE it!!

I was ever soooo lucky and was on Ravelry almost at the very second this gem came up for sale. I hit the Buy button before my reality told me not to! Well, I have been pondering it for quite some time and the price, as when I got my wheel when it was on a rare promotional sale! I think it is just destined to be mine!

Well, said gem of a find arrived today and I practically knocked my old mutha on her ass to get to it!

Since them, minus a few seconds to realize I strung it wrong...oh so THAT's what the hook was for!! I am thrilled with it and know it will get endless use! 2ply lace and 3ply DK here I COME!!!

Well, I just got this today to start...What? Don't know yet...It is self striping of course but not sure how much. I think I will check Ravelry to see if anyone has knit it up yet.

And do ya seeeee my first clunies...Ok, tell me again...is it really worth it? So, after a few hours I think I am getting to be better at this. Again, Blogger is crappin out on me so I will put it in later to show ya all how wonderful I am doing. Thanks for the encouragement

Well, I really like this pattern...only showing a snipet for copyright purposes...so I better like those darned clunies. Ok, well I don;t really disilike them, I just am not all that committed to them! So, today on my sick day, I sat on the couch and tried all darn day. I now feel I can do them so we will give this pattern a try. It still hurts my left 1st MCP joint though so I might not continue...That is medical speak for I am too old to learn something new to do with these hands!!

Funny Miss MimiD thinks if I use something bigger than "nose hair" (my word not hers) I might have better luck! That is a really good point. I did try it with bigger and am getting it easier...this thread was actually 40g Lizbeth. I should try one of my 20s.

I am Late Because the STEELERS won!!!

For those of you who do not care about football, cover your ears because I am screaming "Steelers Going to the SUPER BOWL!! Yeah!! I was intended to podcast last weekend but realized it was a football game and so...NO...no podcast for you!! Sooooorrrrrrryyyyyyy! It was a grreat game and I am very excited for them. I do hope WE win but I am not sure. I do have lucky socks so that should definitely help, right?

I finished the Wendy Johnson socks..Heart to Heart socks in the red. Now I am working on the Diamonds and Cables Socks in a purple Knit Picks Gloss as seen on the right. I am very much enjoying these patterns and will no doubt do more from this book. I will say the only thing I truly dislike is Short-Row heels...ick..but practice makes perfect.

Tatting, I finally sewed on the edging to the hanky that DD gave me. I currently have allowed it to live under a glass (EAPG) bowl made by my GrandFathers old place of employ. It really looks nice there for now. The old antique bowl with a vintage hanky. What could be better?

Sheesh! What a long week!

Phew! What a tough week.
I heard this week on CBS Morning show that it is difficult to stay positive when it is cold and dark and wintry...NO! Really??

I feel that if I do not harm someone it will be miraculous because I keep running in to things...big bruise on my knee, keep wanting to "smart-off" to someone! It is soooo tough to be positive when a patient berates you for saving them more than 100.00 ....when they wanted it to be free....REALLY?

Ah...well. It is Pennsylvania and I am pretty sure we will have sunlight no later than July 4th!! We are constantly diagnosing Vitamin D deficiency here to which I, once again reply....REALLY!!!??? WE HAVE NO SUN!!!

It is so funny to see our fam practice residents from sun-drenched states such as California complaqin that there is no sun here....REALLY?? LOL!! Enough with the reallies!

No 'cast this weekend...coming up next week. On the needles is still the socks for my DD that I need to rip back yet again. Maybe I will let it slide. I have spun a bit but not as much while hand heals. Tonight I plan to spin and watch more of

Happy New Year to every one!! What a great holiday season we had here...snow, good food, and time to knit...spin...tat!! What could be better.

To the top left is the scarf from handspun finally done! It went over well with the recipient as well as those she works with. Below my youngest DD hand sewed every stitch in this bag that is currrently

carrying my knitting projects. It is really beautiful! Over to the upper right is the Lady and the Stone navajo plied and now making a scarf from Oceanwind Knits; tweed scarf. I think I found it via Ravelry.

Below that is the January fiber from Crown Mountain. It is South African Top in the colorway "Celtic Glow". Really pretty fine fluffy fiber spinning so far on a spindle until my hand recovers.

Thanks to StephieJo the winner for December.. I have sent her her goodies. I still have not heard from "Anne"...let me know gal and we will chat.

Thanks to NewfieCatt Catt's Craftiness for her messages to me this week. Check out her site for a nice story and some great crochet and knitted goodies!

Finally, our newest member of the menagerie is Shiloh, a 1 year old Labrador!! I will add a picture later! It is My DD's birthday present to herself...So far, the kitties are mortified but surviving. Shiloh is not going near them but their tails are permanently fluffed. Sigh.

On the shuttles are snowflakes, snowflakes and more snowflakes (pictured prev episode). I have a new pair of scissors from Bagsmith.com..I bought for my birthday...Ok, so I love scissors!! Note the paw paw trying to get them while Lucky sits on the ironing board. A second later they you would have seen them on the floor!

On the needles: Christmas presents I can't talk about but might podcast...Don't listen girls. I gave a vanilla pair I am going to start tomorrow for grandson..his request was white with one blue stripe and one orange one. Huh?

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Birthday (to me!!), and a tale of 5 Kitties

This is episode 25 and I am so happy to be here. Today is my 55th Birthday and though I think it sucks eggs to be in menopause , I am happy to be here!

In this episode I have re-introduced listeners to my cats and the naughty things they have been doing. I also talk about my Thanksgiving dinner plans and I might put a picture in tomorrow as an edit!!

My stuffing is really good...if I must say so myself! I am also making a pumpkin cheesecake and a gravy-less turkey. All New recipes! I do that all the time....Living on the edge and all!!

Knitting is the same but I did buy some Cashmere5 yarn to make some mittens. I will edit the pictures in later as well...I am charging the battery in the camera. I am tatting like crazy on the ornaments and will put the pictures in for that as well...I just wanted to get this up since the podcast was later than I wanted. I am now in love with my Polwarth Lady and the Stone and am thinking of doing a hat and scarf with it. I don't really wear hats but I can make exception.

Murray Lincoln's Tree as mentioned...very nice. I love making golden (or silver) colored ornaments as well. This tree is very beautiful and gives me good ideas.

THE BIG NEWS....a contest!! In the next two weeks via a posted message on iTunes (prefered), here or on podbean will get the winner some yarn (I am buying it new...and probably some Lizbeth tatting thread for the tatter. This is the promised video showing how differently my tatting looks. Do you know anyone who does this as well? It is from an EARLY book and I have been doing it this way for 30+ years! Very fast as well. The video is not the best but not bad.

I had a long weekend for no reason and was able to tat, knit and today spin my way along. These are the socks I finished last week or so ago...the Straight-laced socks from Knitty Winter 2002.

On my trip to Sewickly, I bought these yarns to use in some Christmas knitting.

The yarn is from Yarns Unlimited...Tosh Sock, in Pheasant; Regia Design line Kaffe Fassett in Clay; Belgium sock from Around the World in knitted Socks in Classic Elita Yarns Silky Alpaca Lace;

Frog Tree Alpaca in the Blue.

Tatting this week featured a snowflake mentioned by Ingred , Marty, and Jon. The snowflake is Quantiesque at Jon's site.

Mark Myers has been at it again doing some really phenom videos!! If you have not seen then for Pete's sake...why not. His site Tat-man Lists many opportunities to see, learn and oogle! A must see if you are a tatter!

This is the Tatted Tree from Be-Stitched.com. I workrd up in Sulky Green Holoshimmer and 80g Lizbeth. It was quick and easy and hopefully will look good on a package. The shuttles are new from Shuttleshop. Tulipwood Hearts.

My Fall Trip to see the Leaves and How many bridges do we need to see?

Our fall trip to upper Pa and New York could not be complete without a trip to see one of the bridges Brad's company help design repair. He is a Drafter (CAD) and the company makes bridge decks, rails and railroad rails. These bridges go ever the Erie Canal in a couple of small towns in New York. They were pretty neat lift bridges, actually. This water fall is at Taughannock Falls. It is a gorgeous cricular "cut out" made by the glaciers. Very beautiful. This picture below depicts one of the Finger Lakes. Look at the tree in the foreground. Below is the spooky cemetery at Cornell University. None of these stones appeared to be after late 1800's though I thought I saw a few WWII markers. Spooky but beautiful.

Yarn spun from Lady in the Stone from Crown Mountain. Also one of the snowflakes and awareness patches I have been making. A very busy week.

A visit to see Alpaca Farm and Poor Meat stars in my Dreams

Highland Alpaca Farm, Grove City, PA Oct2 was the open to the public day. What fun we had looking at and patting the animals!! Can I have one? Please? I promise to be good...No? Well, ok never mind!

I bought some wonderful black alpaca from the farm and am tempted to buy more yarn..Very soft. I will post pic of sock I made from Socks From The Toe Up...Diamond Gansy. The guy in the lower pic used to play bass guitar with Bob Dylan.

Started another pair of socks from Nore Silk Garden Light (Col2018) is now a discontinued yarn for some reason...Kinda splitty according to some; I have not had problems.

Tatting on snowflakes with new thread from Fuji...glow in the dark of coarse. Also bought three from Robison-Anton in white and pink also for glowing Christmas ornaments..Do you see a theme here. All I can tell you is that acquiring larger numbers of these on your tree is really an amazing sight...after the lights go out!

Welcome back again! These are the pics I referred to in the podcast. For those that don't listen (shame,shame) the top pictures are some of my older shuttles; the top one my first Lady Hoare type with an ugly yellow "string" on it...clockwise the huge plastic ones are the infamous Tatsy's great for large cords and throwing at the cats. The snipet of tatting is prob 40 years old from an older book...a really nice it tedious edging. And a few Susan Bates oldies!

To taunt one of my fav patients, I am making a yellow and blue (Gooooo PITT) lanyard from these threads found at The Lacemaker, Cortland Ohio He likes Penn State (gasp). The shuttles are from David Reed Smith. The third photo is my last stash haul from The Lacemaker. Some of the threads were "bump and scratch sale...were all balls that hit the ground at one point or the other....Love the book marks in that bookmark book!

The fourth pic is a sample of the designs that were previously associated with the Maus's Tatted Round Robin (doilies) site now no longer functioning Tatted Round Robin 19. I have saved many of those pages from the early years and thank goodness printed many of them out . The can still be found on the archives Tatting Round robins I am not sure if the site goes down this October, I don't remember seeing that warning before. Sooooo. Many of out most well known tatters and designers participated through the years for our collective benefit.

On the knitting front. I am happy this darn sweater is coming along as well as it is! Boy that took a long time to do correctly. Fortunately, I am stubborn as well as beautiful and persevered! I could not be happier with it now. Also on the knitting from new needles from KnitPicks and DYAK. Love the Rosewood Darn Pretty needles in a 6inch DPN for the sweater Nicole from Ewe & I Originals. It is a baby sweater for no one special. I intended to knit for new Grandbaby Myah...now almost three...ah well, the thought counts, right?

My Pittsburgh Penquins colorway from Draygone Yarnes. Next to my beautiful city of Pittsburgh. We saw a ball game last week...we lost but there was a great fireworks display afterwards and a concert with Luke Bryan (I think thats the name)

Back to podcasting tonight. A catch-up session to reintroduce myself and an intro to any newbies out there. I redesigned the site at podbean cause it really looked crappy...I think they altered it somehow but it looks better now. Stay tuned.. Pics of my finished socks soon and tatting . Whats on the needles and shuttles?

First off, Iris Niebach's newest book, Fantasia 3, is one of my favorites!!! To the left is Rose worked with David Reed-Smith shuttles using Lizbeth 40g in the same colorway as the previous doily. It is a pink varigated.

The one to the left is Clara worked in the NEW Lizbeth 80g Light Lemon (614). I LOVE this 80 gauge so far. It is crisp and holds its shape, no fray. The shuttles are both from the Shuttle Shop The one is Palmetto 2007 Flower garden and the newest is Fall into Tatting 2010 Palmetto shuttle. Sadly, I have never been able to go but I swear I will someday!!

This shuttle is very unique as you can see the cutwork is completely different and the laser engraving very intricate. Great job for them!

Back From Vacation...work is for the birds

Lucky knew something was amiss...the other's, experienced in being left tried to console him but he was not buying it. This is him staring down the steps at us leaving. The cats pace all over..While on Vac they also discovered how easy it was to pop out the screen (granma upstairs never suspected) and probably went in and out for four or more days.

We had a great time swam, ate, and swam some more. I have a broken foot but I stood in that water JUST FINE!

This is me at Dewey Beach. We went to Virginia Beach Dewey, and saw the horses at Chincoteague on Assateague Island. They are so amazing.

Good to be home, though I could still use another vacation soooon!

SEEEE! I won't be bad. Seriously, it's ok if you remove me for low activity but funny thing is I have now got my tatting mojo back!! I have been focusing on knitting mostly socks and had had a bit of tatting wrist going on.

These are my first projects out of my gate again...Of course I always go to Iris for inspiration. This is another rendition of Iri's Lorella in pink varigated Lizbeth. The multi Spinwheel from Mary Konior is also in Lizbeth. I really do like this thread though I am anxious to try the 80g.

I have also been trying to needle tat. I refuse to give up though I don't really like it as much. I think it is a break for my hands though so worth the continued effort. I always laugh when people don't like shuttle tatting because to me, it is second nature. I am humbled totally but my lack of needle finesse! So, I get it. Bookmmarks will be my challenge next maybe another twenty-five??

Favorite birthday cake…( look at all that chocolate) angel food cake…cut in half, whole out a tunnel …fill with chocolate whipped cream made with real heavy cream…YUM!! We have had it for years!!

Working in the ER Thanksgiving…hope no one lops off their turkey carvin’ fingers!! Every year suture someone who cuts themselves on knife or a broken glass!

Tatting, spinning and knitting and a new podcast...no, really...I am not kidding!

Well! Where indeed have I been. No excuses...just too overwhelmed with life and work. BUT who cares about that when there is knitting, tatting and spinning to be done! NO ONE!! So, after a looooong hiatus I am hoping to resume with fewer interruptions.

Tatting I have a pile of Christmas things to do. I am currently working Terry McGuffins (Teiko Fujito inspired) Three color ornament. Don't forget the fun of blending threads together. Imagine a great Hand-dyed with a blending filament from Sulky. Yum
Still have a few edgings to complete and a gift to self will be the new Christmas shuttle from the Shuttleshop.

This was the Prom this year a Caribean theme The boat is cardboard but built to spec as a real boat; the scene is to be the backdrop...and was! for the kid's photos! The gals looked beautiful this year with many very floral prints!!

A podcast is almost ready! I am behind because of my worl fatigue and ...lazy!! Will have some tatting pics up soon for the lace I am working on...Hope to be starting a new purse project soon. Won an ebay pattern that is probably in public domain but I could not find it!

Yeah for the first campfire of the season

I finished Luna Regina after several months...almost a full year of work..primarily because I had a short attention span. The cats helped block it to make sure I did ok; that's Lucky. I bought the blocking wires from KnitPicks http://www.knitpicks.com/Knitting.cfm. They also had a nice tutorial I just checked out to see. Common sense really but a nice resource. They were really fast at sending it out as well!

Tatting: Back burnered the doily "Cornelia" from Iris Niebach but will start it up again with the same thread because you all told me it looked ok in the vari-black! I will obey the "peeps" 'cause you all know best!!

I have just posted a podcast..and have another actually recorded and ready for uploading next week ! Can you actually believe it! It is so shocking!! I lost some of my pictures of works in progress and my new grandbaby girl...attack of the DD killed it! I re-took some pics I will put up of what I am up to! I was asked to remember to put in links to mentioned sources so I am trying to update these. The pic to right are the Japanese texts I use most; the pic to left are Iris' books from which the third pic is taken. That was the reference to the doily I am working. What do you think of the thread? I am not likin' it. Maybe just a bit too off the path? Below are the sources I used for the current works in progress.

Well, I got another podcast up. It looks like I am good at monthly though I keep trying to get it done bi-weekly...maybe sometime! Thanks to all who listen and especially to those that left (yes, I did solicit it) responses!

Two podcasts for this week folks! It does not rain...it pours. I am listening to the first one and it is not too bad but for some reason the audio got goofy at the end. I wanted to show you my lovely desk. I am in the process of a podcast in this photo...see the audio in blue on the screen. Scattered over my desk is tatting, knitting and spinning and a bunch of books I was discussing! If I ever clean it off I will show you what it really looks like. bradley (DH) made it from a 100 year old door! It will be sold with the house as it is way to heavy to move! Below in 'Nectarine' from Shuttlemaker is Teri Dusenbury's "Sadie's Heart". The shuttles are two tatting guild shuttles from Shuttle Shoppe; the bottom shuttles are also Shuttleshoppe's Butterflies.

Sad news for "lucky"

Well...a little backround first. I'm an NP who happens to spend a LOT of time in Women's health and Male health services...However...when it comes to kitties...Well, sad to say, but I SUCK!! Little Lucky who I rescued literally from the middle of the yellow line...and cetain death was deemed a female on my first exam. Enter the Son-in-law to be...who (not knowing he has to suck up to me) defied my diagnosis and diagnosed "Lucky" as a MALE!! Well, unbeknownst to me, their little "balls" come down later as opposed to sooner...So my cute lil girl kitty who we girlie talk to is a GUY! Imagine his embarrassment! (Lucky's not the SIL) No wonder she bitches me out every morning in the bathroom. Has been tryin' to tell me "I'm a guy...LOOK you IDIOT, I have BALLS!!" Well, said balls will be removed soon anyway so it is of little importance. How do I make it up to him/her?

Just proof I still tat. Thanks to all who have sent messages of Hello and Season's greetings! A few ornaments I made last year but never posted and a few new ones. One author I missed remembering...will check again and update as I can!! . My tree can freak the heck outa ya when the lights go out!! I forgot I am the Queen of Glow in the Dark! One night this week I turned out the lights then the tree last! BAM!! Half the tree seems to glow in the dark! I love that the tree will continue to glow for an hour!

I have made some knitted items for Christmas but can't tell you yet because the recipients have not seen them! I can't wait until one person sees the scarf I spun from fiber then knitted in to a scarf! I am so addicted!! Ya think a wheel is in my future? No, not really. I think I really like the mechanics of doing it on the spindle. Have a few knew spindles I will post later.

Have a joyous holiday. I TRULY hope to podcast soon. If not before it is my New Year resolution to get an organized system going. I would love to try some interviews . Any volunteers? Until later, Merry Christmas

WELL!! Long time no see!! I have been busy with my job and some restructuring there that meant I needed to change some duties and some hours around. I am basically 9-5 but some days it is earlier and somedays later!! I actually have been tatting but you saw that pic before! It is the pink edging still. BUT I am starting my Christmas tatting with some ornaments and maybe a doily? I am going to use some of the millions of beads I have acquired and will show some pics as soon as I get going!

In meantime the top ball of yarn was home spun from a fiber I got at Natural Knits in Pgh. I am making said scarf that you see next to it...A short neck scarf if all I have from this batch but I like short scarfs better than long. The next is the sock Halcyon I mentioned in the podcast...A Toe-up sock really nice and easy!

The blue is a luscious fiber from Lisa Souzza Elecktra. I am spinning it on my Golding Tsunami and an Ashford just cause I can . Don't ask why I am using two spindles...they are actually spinning true to each other.

The last is "Lucky". I rescued her from the middle of the street, literally on the Yellow Line! A car rhew her out on to the road with her other bro or sister! I never found the other so I think someone picked him/her up! Traffic stopped in both directions to allow for me to rescue her!! Now I have 5!!! Good Lord, now what.! I tried to find her a home but no going here and I just decided after rescuing "Meat" what was one more!! I am VERY suspicious she is Meat's daughter...before I had him fixed!!

I can not believe it is August and I am just now finishing a pair of socks for the Summer Kalcal! Ah well, better late than never!! Now my goal is to blast the hell through this and have another pair before the deadline! Fiddle-dee-dee! Also I have a wee bit more spinning done and this is not even the good stuff! Last night I actually did a damn fine job of it Yeah!! in the foreground is Malchite and it is a dash smaller than worsted weight I think! Think I am going to get a smaller weight spindle...I promise not to get crazy...just to try for the finer weight!

Wow what a week! I have worked and worked on the damn thing(podcast) and was so techno challenged it just was not gonna happen!! IWhat I did not know was that the beautiful bag she made was from a piece of fabric used in her wedding garments! It is gorgeous and I am going to post the link about her fabric. My new passion...spinning. I am soooo bad at it but I am getting better. It is all on Meaghan (I think I miss spelled...will check later) at Stitch-It Podcast!! She starts a section with the simple word "spinning" and I have been had...She uses a wheel but I am using a new Golding Tsunami...It is soooo nice. But, my back hurts my hands hurt my neck hurts...OK I have to stop. My problem...I do too much at a time. So, in one week I have been doing it every day for several hours in the evening! Did ya notice I never post pics of the inside of my house...good thing!

New podcast will be up in a day. As soon as I am done with the second half I will post it up.

A catch up of Biter, now known as "Meat" who seems to want to live here and for 4000$ I think we earned him!! He is the one who Bit my DD but he actually is as sweet as could be!

The other picture is from our trip to Washington, DC. The Vietnam wall. If you have never been and aon go to DC, I strongly suggest it. What amazing stuff to see. We walked all over the place and my poor knees still feel it! The monuments and the sights are great. I cry as soon as my eyes lit on to the "Wall". We also went to the Holocaust museum. Words can not express how you feel.

My Dad was among the Liberation forces, he drove the General through the gate at Dachau. While he never spoke of it...ever...he did not need to. But, seeing the museum and the artifacts was very moving.

As, DD is a US History teacher, this made it even more fun. I will post a pic from the Civil War museum in Harrisburg. Another really well done museum. They had life-like models all around and it was truly amazing how real it seemed.

I have a new podcast up after a bit of an absense. I am going to focus on some books and pattens, I think and based on some knitting 'casts I have listened to, I am thinking of trying to do some interviews....any takers? I gotta fiigure out how ya' do it first!!

New tatted edging and Biter becomes family

Weeeellllllll, Biter had his Rabies shot this weekend so he can officially be around my other kitties. I have accepted the Biter wants to be here, but I wonder about his "other Mommy!" I think he goes to the other place but certainly not today! He came to the door, meowed until we opened the door, went right to the bathroom where he had been secluded looking for his food. Five hours later he is still in the same spot on the couch. Did not even move when I turned on the sweeper. Maybe it is Stockholm Syndrome! The pic is of him lookin in from my flower bed.

I started a new edging patten. I think I have done it before but am not sure. I actually think someone out there in tatting land got it as an exchange. I am making it from Tatted Hankerchiefs (Nikolajsen). It will go with a hanky DD gave me for my birthday she found at a antique shop.

The other pic is my new fav carry case for tatting. Found it at TJ Maxx. Yeah TJ!

Then I picked him up...I know but he is sooo cute...and brought him in and they were rolling on each other with glee. Good grief...Now what!! My fault, I know, I need to cut the cord. Mr Biter Goes Home and a new Podcast

Ah, sad!!! Today we let Mr Biter go. He turned out to be the sweetest little guy! He fit in with the other cats like you can not imagine! See how they all sat together! But, he has a family and they are probably missing him too. Sooo we put him down in the backyard and walked away! I wanted to cry to be honest! But, he sat there for a few minutes and we have not seen him since tonight, that is. DD now can stop the shots (2000.00) later that is. Yikes. Unfortunately, we had no choice! Expensive visitor eh? He is the cutey in yellow.

Mr Biter, the cat

Don't know if I told ya all the story...Miss DD (26) was patting a neighbor kitty when it latched on and bit her. Problem: Mr Biter is unmarked, unknown owner...unknown rabies status. Sooooo Miss DD is getting rabies shots. BUT I found the kitty, nabbed him while wearing an outfit fit for an Arctic exploration and he is currently residing in our bathroom and in this crate!! I'm keeping the little bastard til I know he does not become crazy. Poor thing is most likely an indoor/outdoor kitty but I am not, can not, take the chance!

Knitted the rest of my Embossed leaves socks. They are sooo comfy. Now am focused on the shawl..Juno Regina...You can't see the detail but it will come along I think.

I am making tatting bookmarks, but I think I am going to start an edging. I have a hankerin' do do makes scallopped edge. Will pick it up later today.

Prom 2008!!

These are two of the pictures my honey created for the Prom this year. The theme is on Top of City Lights. It is like a roof-top party. The Prom is tomorrow. I think they did another FINE job. Remember, it is all in cardboard! I have to say the guy is possessed! With genius that is!!

I am working on my resumes to apply for an interview for a newer job. I love my current job but not so much my extra part-time one. I am too old for such hurrying around! LOL. So, I was working on a resume on line and after all the work...click...I made it go away! Crapperino!!

So, I will work on this new project and see how I do. I also like this new yarn. SO...I think I will work a wee bit more on my stole then, I think I will start a new bookmark, or that edging I mentioned...I have an itch but am not sure where to start.

Tatting yesterday on International Tatting Day! I did not do much but this is what I am making. Bookmarks for the next exchange. This is from Tatting Lace (Ondori Publisher) I love that book. Too bad I do not understand the language but it is a very nice book!

I finished my RPM's. Don't pay attention to the heels not matching! I ALWAYS match a cut and start in tatting so the threads don't look off! However, I did not notice until I was done that the cuff on one is green and the other pink! Frickety-frack! Ah well, who cares!

My cat Coffee always sits on my printer while I am at the desk so he got his pic taken today! He says Hi!

I made another podcast was satisfied with it then could not get it uploaded. I think the file was too big so I edited it down but still no go. Sooooo. I am going to re-record and totally record a new one today and try again! So, look for it sometime this week. As you hear, mine are very conversational and patterned after my real life and how I put tatting and knitting in to it. I don't see myself doing instructions. So, any feedback you have will be appreciated. It is kinda fun. I am recording in styles that I persanoally enjoy in others' casts.

My first (maybe last) podcast is on the right of the post. It is called Arlene Tats and Knits. I hope you all will like it...I am using the conversational style versus instructional. Daughter in getting married...someday!

Nope, He is not my son, (mentioned on the 25Motif blog) it is my daughter marrying him. However, I will say he has been accepted as a son ever since they started dating! This pic is proof she belongs to me...don't we look alike"? The other gal in the gargyle is my older daughter and I have another in Arizona. My post now that I re-read, does not really say who is my kid though does it? Nope, thank goodness I had daughters. I would have sooooo messed up a boy baby! I don't get boys. A professor used to refer to them as testosterone poisoned! They would hve been gals except for that surge!! Hee hee.

They did it! My baby and her honey of 5 years are gonna get married! Oh Goodness, now what! I am hoping they are not gonna do it tooooo soon...My baby is too young (24) I think they should wait until she is older....like 40? Nah..he is a great guy and I wish them many years of happiness and good fortune. Now, I can give her that surprise you see below! Hope she is not reading this!! If so...Sammy!! Don't you peek now!! They got engaged at a place in Pittsburgh called Phipps Conservatory. A local landmark, and one of their fav spots. They are currently showing a Chuhuli glass exhibit. It is a remarkable display. The third pic is an example...all glass! Looks so real you would think glass actually did grow from the ground!!

I can not believe I had not posted since October!! Trust me, I have been tatting!!I sent out all my packages to Mary...Her last exchange. I really have fun with these!! Especially the Christmas one. When I am busy shopping for every-one else, it is nice to get a little somethin, somethin to make the holiday fun for me too!!

My Christmas tree is VERY heavy after 30+ years of accumulated ornaments. It has never fallen over until....last night! 3am just as I actually went to bed...CRASH!! Only a few broke which was miraculous!! No real special ones...on a scale of 1=10. Every one have a nice day

1. I have a masters in nursing and practice as a nurse practitioner in family medicine in a family practice residency program. I love my job and teaching new docs

Christmas ornaments and knitting

You might not be able to see this but the sock is actually nicely scalloped. It is Scallops Cuff Socks from Crystal Palace using Panda wool in red cinnamon colorway. I love that yarn!!

The ornament is from my fav ornament book (well dog-eared) from Ann Stearns. I used a blended hologram filament (Sulky) and a glow in the dark thread. We have had the giggles in my office as we took turns going in the dark bathroom to check it out!! I am going to do some of Mark Myer's angels in this and will post soon.

I am still thinking about podcasting and am going to make a trial post today or the 'morrow to see how it flies. I learn so much from the knitter's blogs that I think it begs to be done by us too!! If I can figure out Skype and if anyone is on skype we can tape interviews too! Cool!!

Tatting and a possible podcast

FINALLY, I finished Iris Niebach's Francesca. Heaven only knows why I struggled so. I made three tries...I just got so frustrated I had to quit! It is the one below here that is half done. But, I tried another color which I really love that was shown to me by my doily exchange buddy awhile back. I really love her patterns and am now starting on Lorella which is another really neat pattern. I will use DMC57 for that one too.

The knitting is another sock on Cascade Palace needles 1 I think, using Panda wool a really nice 46% bamboo in the color Ultramarine. Don't look too closely however. I look as if one foot is seriously impaired!! I quit too soon and one is slightly too short. I have size 5.5 feet though so it did not make much difference. I really love this yarn. I am now attempting the Magic Loop with size #1 32inch Addi's. (See, I am talking knitting!!) My daughter who helped me refresh my skills finally "allowed" me to try the loop after I seemed to "get" the concept of sock construction. I have found that the knitting gives the elbow tendinitis a break...Tatting kills my medial elbow!! I also have purschased Bamboozle yarn 2301 Rosewater to do the summer dream socks (all found at http://www.straw.com/index.html) Take a look at my kid's knitting at http://knitspurlscurls.blogspot.com/. She has some awsome knitting there and is pretty funny.

This brings me to podcasting...I am seriously thinking of creating a podcast for tatting. There are soooo many great ones for knitting that I listen to. I think WE NEED one too!! So, I am looking in to what I need to put on the 'puter to make this happen. Any thoughts?

Doing socks again

My third pair EVER!! I love this pattern..Cascading leaves pattern (can't remember what site). Yarn is Colinette Jitterbug ($20.50 cripes!) in Florentine. My daughter re-taught me and I am getting addicted. Even listened to a podcast!! Hey Tatters...(Mark..Sharon...Iris...Eva...whoever..) How about some inspirational tatting podcasts to keep us entertained! Now I have to resort to George Tenet's book on the CIA. At the Center of the Storm.a great read actually, and Evanovich's, Mean Lean Thirteen which is hilarious.

This is Franscesca (on the shuttles) and the other is a completed Milena (not blocked) My shuttles are DavidReedSmith's (before I killed some of them and the rest went in to hiding! This thread DMC80 in 57 is a gorgeous varigate that my doily exchange partner used in her rendition of Milena. It is amazing how different hers is from mine. I tat very tightly but hers is VERY tight and the size of the end result is remarkable. Or....the difference in lots seems to make a difference sometimes I think.

Broken shuttle fiasco!!

GASP!!! Can you believe it! I was devastated!! They are David Reed Smith shuttles and I think he can fix them...have a desparate call out! If not I will mend with wood glue as I have all the pieces and they do fit well together! I bid on this sev years ago and won it!! They (to me) represent my family and me. kids, hubby, me (I am the BIG one..ha ha)

Decided it needed a new look so opted to update...then lost some of my stuff. So, I will be working to spiffy it up. In the meantime, I continue to work on Iris' doilies, but with all the talk about the nativity scene and the town (Ineke's Books) I now think I better but those books!! Goos thing I have two jobs!!

I love this book! It is killing me but I love it! Having some problems with this one but it is working out. Sometimes I just have trouble deciphering. BUT...They are so interesting! I keep doing more for my 25. Frankly I think we are at 26-27 by now. I have started and can't quit! Might just do a second 25 all in doilies?!!

I also love these shuttles from the Shuttleshoppe. They are from the Southern Belle's, and Frivolite(k)ring, from the Netherlands. Very light and easy to use and always get nice comments!

I just bought a new computer and now, at 4am I am still up playing. My Gateway was tired after about ten years so , it took forever to put it all back together. Thank goodness for cables to tranfer data. Then however, I had to update some drivers that were not compatable. EEKs.

Am really loving the continued projects on the 25 Motif page. What a good idea that has been!!

BUT!!!! I can't stop!! Maybe I should start over? Do 25 DOILIES!! ??? Thanks to my exchange partner...she knows who she is...I am addicted to Iris Niebach's patterns. (this one is Cornelia) I thhink it is a break from Teiko Fujito..no offense to those gorgeous pattens.

I need to meet this gal, (Iris) I think she might need meds!! (medical humour) The patterns are so unique in their approach it it truly addicting. Such a mind to engineer these one pass designs! I might need meds next as I find them both fascinating and annoying to figure out! Who thinks this way! I think these wonderful designers are simply in a breed all to themselves! I love to create but am totally without design "genes". Bless those who are!!

I think I might have one or two Motifs left...I think I am done but I can't find one so....I think I will make another couple doily patterns...thanks to my exchange partner Marty, I have purchased Iris Niebach's Tatted Doilies. Such wonderfully unique pattens... in ONE pass!! Wow! Thanks for the inspiration Marty!

This Rose was made with the intent of putting it on my Mom's Mother's Day gift. alas, I did not getit done so...sorry ma!! I made it with 15g beads, to simulate dew? as suggested...don't like it as much with the beads. I think it was just too many. I can see the possibilities if I add fewer? add to different areas as if truly scattered? who knows. I am going to try it in all white with beads next because I think it might look better with the beads in the white . I love the pattern. It is very full and was very easy to do though I did somehow manage to get a twist in it! grrr! . I am going to make Koniors rose next. We are going to the Prom again!!

I can NOT get over how talented my honey is! This year he helped the kids again at our high school. My last DD graduated 6 years ago and they still won't let him quit! This year it was Super Mario Brother's. The kids pick a theme and he aids in the design. Take a look at Mario's origens. He starts as a huge block of green floral foam...small blocks all glued together then carved, paper mache's and dressed. He is not on the scale of Mark Myers but I can tell you the man can do anything out of paper mache, styrofoam, and floral block!! I swear he is a bit touched in the brain! We get to go back and look it over tonight, they usually invite us to eat dinner with them.

Association of Amalgamated Doily Maker's!!

This is what my honey calls us!!Just jealous I think!! So, I think according to my count my 25 Motif challenge is done I gotta count them all out and will post the collection on Flicker. I Finished and am mailing my doilies for the exchange. These photos are not the ones though so as not to give it out.. But...I can never just do one I keep going until pooped out!!

Am sooo amazed by the lovely things being done by our VERY talented friends. I am so humbled and so challenged by their works, beginner and expert alike. I just find tatting to be THE most relaxing activity of my day. I do it every day! Saves me thousands of bucks of therapy.

I am now doing some socks again. I had one done then started the other and totally messed up. I had to tear it all out and start again. My daughter taught me...she makes hundreds of socks!!(I might be exaggerating.

St Patrick's Day tatting

This is Jenny Seymour's "Top Of the Morning Shamrock" from Tat All Tales. I have made about 25 for work so far including my "Orange" Irish one. I am not Catholic, but I have a distant relative who was from Ireland, we think.

Have been cruising the tatting pages and sites this weekend. Goodness there is talent out there!! Not such a "Dying art" is it!! The German eye candy coming through Here-Be-Tatters was amazing.

The 25 Motif site has been so inspiring...I have been inspired to do some-one else's patterns though!! I have not done any designing...not too creative at my own designs. Better at working them up!!

March is finally here; think butterflies and shamrocks

Well, I have been working on butterflies for my exchanges. I love the book from Adelheid Dangela. I have a pile of them now waiting to fly away. I had not posted for a looong time. Have just been lazy and busy at work which makes me stare into space when I get home!!

I also have been working on shamrocks to take to work. I will scan them later and put them up. I think I am about done with all my 25 motifs but I have lost count. I need to sit down and count them up. I made hearts, snowflakes, butterflies, and angels so far. Love all the great work everyone has been doing!!

Can you really be done with Christmas tatting? I love snowflakes, angels and the like!! One or two more and I am more than halfway through. I have drawn it out to prolong my own fun!! The challenge is one of the best things we have done, I think!!
The star with the beads is from Emma Crew 3/01 found on Maus' site. The one "in the works" is from BellaOnline printed off 10/06. It has some interesting design elements including SCMRs. My shuttle's knicknames are Rose (1 and 2 I guess). They belonged to a friends mom. When they stab me; they are very old Detach-A-Spools...I tell her "Rose...you behave"!!
I am now well, thank goodness. (except talking to shuttles.) Got the tree up today. It was so heavy in the front it almost fell over!! DH and I went to select it, then they cut it down for you and bring to the car. The weather here in PA is 50-60s so was weird but nice weather for December.
I will post finished product when done. Have great weekend!

Snowflakes on the tree but none on the ground!!

The two rosette flakes are from Maus' round robin pages to add to my Motifs. Thank goodness I have a lot of copies from the old site!! Anyone know where they are and if they will ever be seen again? Sad day when Maus' signed off that site. I made one in glow in the dark thread...can't wait to see my tree after dark. And the smaller is from two silver metallics and hologram blending filament. It really sparkles.

I immediately got out the thread to work up Ben's flake. Was a little tricky to follow at first but easy once I started. Pretty...take a look at his site while you're at it. Lovely work!!

Finally back at posting. I have been sooo busy working two jobs..but I HAVE been tatting...just not POSTING!! Secret Santas, wreaths stars and the like have fallen off the shuttle and are now wanting to be shared... I will put up my angels today and the wreaths stars later. The coolest thing? They will glow in the dark!! The outer two are Mark Myers' from Tatted Gathering of Angels, and the middle one id from Monica Hahn's Christmas angels and Other Tatted Patterns. A break for breast cancer awareness

Darned if I can find my pattern now but this was taken from Lenore English a couple years ago. I am making one for all of us in my office. I am a nurse practitioner who does A LOT of women's care. We are planning a couple events in the office to increase awareness. We also have a gal who is surviving colon cancer so will make her one in (navy) I think. I keep having to make more because if I am out and about I get "caught" tatting in the mall...off they go!! Get your exams gals and remember guys...even though they are flat they are still boobs!! Do your exams men and women!!

Modification of heart of Texas

This heart, my own modification, is based on Teresa Woods' "Heart of Texas". I will work it up to show you...I have always liked that heart because of the dimpled rongs. I made mine with the central three rings also from dimpled rings. I like hers better, but mine was a feeble first start into the design arena. Hope you like

The one on right (the smaller pic) is Heart of the Butterfly by Irene Woo from 1999!! All from my downloaded stash. I have never worked up any of these patterns but have enjoyed doing them. The thread was from Flora 50 in color 57. Now back to work on the one in previous post...I feel creative juices sloshing around...unless that is the rum and coke I am drinkin...maybe will try my own design!! Good luck to ME

This is the beginnings of "Rose bouquet heart" from Becky Dempsey posted formerly on Maas's long beloved site. I have just started this yesteerday and am already having fun with it. I love that floral centerpiece.
I just started working more intently on my motifs. I have not done any desogning but feel a little rumbling in there that it either an upset stomach (comtemplating a job change) or creativity!!

The picture is just an example of things I have done that I will include in the challenge...newly made of course. I love hearts, stars/snowflakes, crosses and butterflies. My 25 motifs will be a variety of these 3-4 themes. I think I will do 5 of each with the last five being attempts at designing or modifying existing patterns. I love Teri Dusenbury's Tatting Hearts (Dover), Adelheid Dangela's Tatted Butterflies, and snowflakes patterns that used to be on Maas's site. BUT... now that I am thinking about it maybe I will do some of the works from Lindsay's Roger's Tatting Collage!! SO many choices!! Good luck and fun to us ALL

Tatting tin exchange

I tried to post pics of the tatting tin exchange but for some reason they did not come up right. I got great stuff from my partners. Kendra sent two neat tins I will use in my BR actually, three spools of vintage threads, three pairs of really cute earings, beads and scissors (I LOVE scissors). Rosa sent a cute tin with a puppy on it...I will stash stash!!, A notebook to record projects and pattern locations, thread keepers, two spools of threads, a measuring tape, a very nice scissor and tweezer set I will use with my knitting, and a shuttle....Also three Workbaskets. You guys are great!!!I am going to see if my pics come up better. Yep! There they are. I will have to retry the others!!These Christmas ball are from my FAVORITE ornament book by JoAnn Stearns. I have also made these with the glow in the dark thread from Solar Active.(http://www.solaractiveintl.com/glow_thread.htm) They make a great thread, very fine that works up beautifully. They look really cool on the tree after the lights are out!!

Tatting blunders uncovered

See that really nice Red Hatter edging below...major goof!! Thought I was running out of red only to discover I had enough red but had ...at some time...switched my purple to an ever so slightly different color!! Went to Lacemakers http://www.lacemakerusa.com/, to get the red I needed...then in the car discovered it was the wrong red then....low and behold discovered the "horrible truth" Sounds like a weird scenario!! It WAS!! I live 50 miles from Tracy's shoppe in Cortland, Ohio ...but no trip is a wasted one. Sadly, I need this by Friday, my SIL birthday...So, now am making it all over!! I think I can do it...contract negotiations allow a LOT of down time...So, we will see!!

This is another vintage from the same book...guess I was on a roll. The other view (on the top) is what the original Anita hanky looks like on the side. All this talk of hankies is making me think of making some more. I like the 100 thread as you have heard but am thinking of trying one of these patterns in 120 or the 160 Georgia ordered for us several years ago. I still have quite a bit of it left. Later you will see that my daughter has inspired me to try knitting again. The pink sock is MY FIRST project!! pretty ambitious aint I!! I learned so I could go with her to World Wide Knit in Public Day! Yep, they have them too! We went to the Pittsburgh Art Festival and met in Point Park. It was quite fun!! We tatters should do it too though I think we do have a Tat day too. I think it was in May? Anyway. Thanks for your supportive comments...you tatters are great!!

Red Hatter Designs

My sister-in-law is a Red Hatter. She is the Queen Mother (I think that is what she's called) For heer birthday I am making a hat to put on the box and a hankie with red and purple thread. The hat is actually a Basket pattern from Tatsy book and the Edging is from "Tatted Hankerchiefs" (Nikolajsen).
Do you see the shuttles? They are one of my favorites from Shuttleshop...they are two little Hedgehogs!! I get so many comments on them.

Wedding Hankies

I was just thinking about my kids and their future weddings. I have made hankies for each of them but I think my most unusual pattern was the vintage one I made for Anita. Only one has married thus far but I have them just in case. The one I did for Anita waas my first bug project. It is a vintage pattern that built itself almost inside out. It starts with this huge long lenth and each round draws it in more until it finally fits the standard 10" hankie. The hanky is silk and the thread is DMC 100.
I should take another pic that shows it full round. I will try that sometime. The long edges are made up of the motifs spread out more. I worked on this for months at the lunch table in my office. They were mesmerized. They usually are...but I have not had any one brave enough to try tatting. Some day.

I am still needle tatting

Getting better again guys. Anyone care to help me figure out why my chains sometimes have a gap. I am working on a doily I got from Abby in the exchange. It is called the "Amusement doily". I do not know what book it is from. I am just copying from hers (while ruining my eyes)As I said, I am wayyyyy better with my shuttles than the needle. I just had to try it again. Oddly, though I think I gave my self some carpal tunnel witht the shuttle, the needle hurts the tip of my fingers. Guess I am getting old!! (50). I will post a picture later of my tatting needle project.

We're going to the Prom

Look at these amazing pics. My husband helps the kids with the prom every year. He takes their theme and helps them create the look. Usually it features some big piece he creates to set the tone, This year he made this from carved blocks of floral green foam, carved them down, then paper mached over it. Then we made the chair back and cushion. The kids will use this as a photo area...carefully I hope!! The base is hard woods so will take the weight. We are going to join them for the dinner. I can not wait to see how the class likes it! These kids really work.
